Looking Back On Malaga

“PAINTBALL STARTS HERE“

And what a blast of a start it was! The Millennium proved again that their slogan is their mission.

The kick-off event of the Millennium 2008 season returned back to the wonderful beaches of Malaga/Spain in truly big style. A perfect scenery combined with the beautiful Spanish weather gave stage to one of the best Millennium events ever. At least this was the opinion of players and vendors from all over the Paintball world („This is better than everything else we know in the States“ said Ryan Greenspan from DYNASTY, guesting for SPL event winner INSTINCT).

But the event also attracted a lot of people from the „real“ world: The boardwalk was crowded all weekend with tourists and players watching the games together. According to the local police a total of nearly 30000 people passed through the event during the weekend, with a peak of nearly 15000 people on Sunday. Many of them had learned about the tournament through the many posters and flyers spread all across the city in advance.

Or they had read about it in one of the newspapers publishing big articles or had seen the TV coverage: Two national TV stations (‚Antena 3‘ and ‚Tele5‘) as well as three local stations (including ‚Canal Andalusia‘) broadcasted it on the sports section. 4 nationwide newspapers (‚El Mundo‘, ‚El Pais‘, ‚La Marca‘, ‚ABC‘) plus 5 (!) regional newspapers made sure that everybody in Spain is now aware of what Paintball and the Millennium is all about.

It was a win/win situation for everyone as also the city was very happy: Four hotels were fully booked with Paintball players – and this in the middle of the the off season! Many bars and restaurants were so crowded in the evening that the only thing you could see over the lines of players and vendors waiting for their tables was the big smile of the owner of the place!

Thanks to everybody for making this happen – next stop: London Basildon for the Campaign Cup. Let’s do it again!
